Sometimes you feel all fa-la-la-la-la. Sometimes you don’t.
I debated staying out of your inbox this week.
- Maybe you don’t celebrate Christmas.
- Maybe you do, and you’d rather mark the occasion without emails like mine.
- Maybe you’re too busy to even look at your email. By the time you stumble across this one it’ll be old news.
Here I am anyway, and here’s why: The holiday season is all about connecting.
Whether you celebrate any or all of these days, there’s something in the air this time of year. Something worth celebrating.
Yes, the ads start too early. The stores are too crowded. We’re way too busy.
The Christmas carols we’ve been hearing since October, for cryin’ out loud, have just about worn out their welcome. All of that.
And. When we let go of the complaints and criticism and social com
mentary, the holiday season is all about connecting.
Connecting to tradition. Connecting to spiritual life. Connecting to each other.
That’s where you come in. I’m grateful for the connection we’ve created. For the fact that you read my weekly newsletter. For the delightful and sometimes hilarious replies you write.
Every bit of our virtual conversation is a gift. I’m celebrating that today. I’m celebrating you today.
As we head toward the New Year, I have high hopes for you, your work, and your success. And, yes, I have hope for my own business as well.
In the meantime, should the holiday hoopla feel a bit overwhelming … think of me standing in front of the Christmas tree, holding my little brother’s hand and scowling.
Then join me in celebrating our connection.
Dearest Catherine,
I treasure the connection we have. It goes beyond time and distance. It is unique. It covers many ideas and interests. It offers new things to be discovered about each other. Connections are a life blood that is always flowing, at times very active and at times very quiet, but always there. I feel that with you.
Thank you for all your beautiful, humorous, serious, warm guidance. I look forward to your letters in the New Year! Maybe, God willing, I will be able to come and stay in my room and we can connect for hours on end. I would so like that! May life grace you, Catherine, with a fantastic 2020! M.
Yes! to a Chicago visit and IRL connection, Marietta. And thank you you for looking forward to my newsletters. I’m mindful that inboxes are full and lives are busy, and I’m always grateful when someone makes space for me in theirs. Many blessings to you as we begin another trip around the sun.
